Prince William’s private secretary Miguel Head is stepping down after 10 years of loyal service. The senior advisor had a formal farewell gathering and Kate Middleton made a surprise appearance to personally wish him good luck. This shows that the Duchess of Cambridge is ready to slowly start coming back to her royal duties. Kate was and still should be on a maternity leave, after having her third child, Prince Louise, in April.

Elle UK reported that “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this afternoon received Mr. Miguel Head upon relinquishing his appointment as Private Secretary to His Royal Highness.”

Duncan Larcombe, who is a royal biographer , told Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year that an official royal maternity leave continues for six months and that means that Kate has the right to stay away from the official royal affairs till October. “It is traditional for new royal mums to take a six-month break from official engagements,” Larcombe told the outlet. “The wedding doesn’t count because it was a ‘family affair’ but other than that, she will pick and choose her engagements. If she wanted, Kate could disappear into the background until October!”
