In a surprising interview the former actress revealed in that she is very picky over the clothes she wears. Even Though Victoria and David Beckham attended her and harry’s wedding in May, Meghan said she would not wear any of the designer’s dresses because of her body shape. In an interview with Glamour during her time working for the TV show Suits the Duchess admitted that she does not “have the long torso to support that silhouette”.
“Now what I’m starting to learn is, even though things look amazing on the hanger, it doesn’t mean they’re going to look amazing on me. For example, I love Victoria Beckham dresses, but I don’t have the long torso to support that silhouette. I wore a lot of Burberry on Suits, and I wear a lot of Prabal Gurung, because Rachel Zane’s whole aesthetic is someone who comes from money and has a real classic design sensibility.”
“It’s really modern because she’s still young.” She added: “There’s also a lot of Tom Ford because as all paralegals do, she wears a Tom Ford skirt to the office! It’s so funny because girls come up to me on the street and they feel like they know you and they’ll say, “Oh what was that skirt that you were wearing last week?! I’ll be like, ‘well A, I was wearing it seven months ago, and B, it was a Tom Ford skirt – so you want to know but you don’t really want to know that it was a $5000 skirt – and I don’t get to keep it! But it’s been really cool to see what works for my body and what doesn’t.”
Before she got married and became an official member of the royal family, the new Duchess was seen wearing, a cream jumper by Victoria for her engagement photos with Prince Harry last December.
She was also seen wearing the same jumper earlier this year during the Duke and Duchess’s first official joint visit to Northern Ireland. She wore a spring coat by Mackage, a Greta Constantine emerald skirt and a jumper by Victoria Beckham.
Meghan’s style is heavily inspired by the TV character she played in Suits, as she continues to wear very similar styles. Jolie Andreatta, who was a custom designer for the tv show ‘Suits’ said: “Meghan and I loved Rachel’s clothes. We’d always say that, if we could, we would live in Rachel’s clothes. Designing Rachel’s look was like being a kid in a candy store.”
In terms of her go-to style Meghan shared: “On a normal day, I love a shift dress with flats and a little cropped jacket. That for me is my travel wear if it’s not too chilly – you can throw a scarf over your legs if it’s cold on the plane! On the show I wear things that are so body conscious, so it’s nice to have things that are a little easier to breathe in. As I’ve gotten older, I like longer dresses, but my legs come up to my ears and I’m not very tall, so when I wear a short skirt I’ve got to be really conscious.”
When asked about what would she wear for a dinner date she added: “I would probably wear jeans, a nice top and a blazer. Basically, what Emmanuelle Alt would wear! She is my style spirit animal! Her and Geraldine Saglio. I have now started to do that thing where you tear out pictures for inspiration of how you’re going to dress for the day. I love the opportunity to get properly dressed up. I’ve worn three Lanvin dresses and they’ve all been a dream. They’re so well made, with the most beautiful craftsmanship. I don’t tend to go with things that are ornate – just beautifully made pieces and some classic jewelry. Let the work speak for itself. I love that.”
The Mail had reported that the Duchess has been getting help not from anyone else but her husband when it comes to style. Harry has been meeting with high-end designers at Kensington Palace and has attended fittings. The publications reports that the Duke is very “keen” on giving the Duchess some style tips.
“Meghan is always asking Harry’s opinion,” a source told the outlet. “She really wants his views. He gives his views on what he thinks looks best, rather than helping her follow royal protocol on hemlines or anything like that. The joke is that Harry is Meghan’s surprise stylist.”
“The special projects team at Stella McCartney are working on a few more outfits for Meghan, and Harry always comes to design meetings and fittings to give his opinions on the looks,” the source said.
Last October Meghan appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine’s where the 36-year-old actress opened up about her relationship with the 32-year-old royal.
“I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple,” Markle said. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”
