Meghan Markle attended along with other members of the royal family, Christmas day service earlier today in Sandringham. This is Meghan’s second year attending the service and first being there as an official member of the royal family. The two kept their arms linked together the whole time as they appeared in public on Christmas day. They were pictured looking into each other’s eyes, smiling and walking close together before and after the church service. You can see in the photos that even when Meghan and Kate leaned into each other to talk, Meghan kept a hand at Harry’s elbow.

Now body language expert Patti Wood tells Marie Claire how Meghan’s behavior with the royals has changed in the last year.

One of the main differences that Wood noticed was that this year Meghan feels way more comfortable and she is more there as part of the fab four rather than just Harry’s partner.

“Meghan’s a little bit further away from Harry as she’s walking, but I think that’s to be part of a unit, for [Harry and Meghan] to be part of a unit,” Wood says. “So, that’s not saying that there’s something wrong with them as a couple, it’s saying that before, it was all about the couple and here they’re walking all across and she’s cognizant of being in a unit.”

“If you look at their feet, you can see how they are walking very much as a unit,” she adds. “They all have a foot forward. It’s not the same foot forward but they all have a foot forward on the same plane. And that’s very remarkable.”

She was shyer last year and more comfortable this one. Last year Meghan was photographed looking down at the ground several times, this year she walked more confidently.

“If you look at the photos from last year, you can see how often her head is down,” Wood says. “She has a tiny bit of that this year, but overall her head is up and elongated. She was shier last year. She was more hesitant.”

And another major one is that this year allowed herself to pull away from Harry more often. Last year she was literally glued to him.

“Last year, she was a little shier and more submissive last year and a little closer to Harry,” Wood adds. “Just slightly closer. She would try to get the space between them to be less.”
