In his speech he paid tribute to late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury: “Oh my god, I am beyond moved,” Malek said at the podium. “My heart is pounding out of my chest. This is a profound honor to be counted among such extraordinary actors, I am privileged. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press and to everyone who worked so tirelessly on this film. I have to thank [producers] Graham King and Denis O’Sullivan, you’ve worked over a decade to make sure this story was told. Thank you to 20th Century Fox, you believed in us. I have to thank my mom and my family,” Malek continued. “Of course, to Queen. To you, Brian May, to you, Roger Taylor, for ensuring that authenticity remains in the world. Thank you to Freddie Mercury, for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for and because of you, gorgeous,” he shared onstage.

The movie won Best Picture, which award was presented by Nicole Kidman. After she pronounced the winner the whole team from the epic biopic came on stage. While they were all there Rami made an attempt to hug Nicole, but she either didn’t notice Rami or just wanted to give the cast of Bohemian Rhapsody their time to shine. At some point, he gave up and stood in the back while executive producers Graham King and Jim Beach accepted the award.

Another one said: “Rami Malek awkwardly and unsuccessfully trying to have a moment with Nicole Kidman is me trying to insert myself in groups and conversations at social events.”
