Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas got married before family and friends in Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhavan Palace. People magazine reports the ceremony was officiated by Jonas’s father Paul Kevin Jonas. The couple will have a traditional Hindu ceremony on Sunday.
The couple has shred first photos from their Mehendi ceremony. A Mehendi is a Hindu wedding ritual in which “the women in the bride and groom’s families, along with close friends, gather together while the bride has elaborate henna designs applied to her hands and feet.”
For the ceremony, the actress wore an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla gown, with jewelry also created by the designer.
A source told People magazine earlier this week: “It is super important to Priyanka to have an Indian ceremony that honors her heritage and culture, just as it’s important to also have a Western ceremony that honors Nick’s Christian upbringing, They are doing both.” The couple has been dating since the Met Gala in May 2017 when they officially made their red carpet debut together.
Finally, Priyanka’s birthday took the couple to Crete, where Nick popped the question. “I got down on one knee, again, and I said: ‘Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?’ No joke – she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence,” Nick revealed. “I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.”
They both shared on their social media accounts that the wedding has taken place today in India. They wrote: “One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other’s faiths and cultures. And so planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so so amazing. An important part for the girl in an Indian wedding is the Mehendi. Once again we made it our own and it was an afternoon that kicked off the celebrations in the way we both dreamed.”
During their Christian ceremony on Saturday Chopra and Jonas both wore Ralph Lauren ensembles. Ralph Lauren confirmed that Chopra and Jonas wore custom outfits from the designer and also outfitted their bridesmaids and groomsmen in the label. Photos of the Christian ceremony are yet to be revealed, so stay tuned!
