Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas got married on December 1 and 2 in two separate ceremonies at Jodhpur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace. First, on December 1 they had a Christian ceremony, officiated by Nick’s father, and on the next day, they got married again in accordance with Hindu wedding rituals. It has been a week full of celebrations and tons of emotions for these two.
Priyanka admitted to People magazine: “I could not hold it in. I think I was nervous and scared. But as soon as the curtains opened, and I saw his face it was just like everything settled and I knew I was making the best decision of my life. It was all tears. All tears.”
In an exclusive interview with People magazine, the happy bride shared: “Every girl dreams of being a princess on her wedding day. But I never had a plan about what I wanted it to be.” She added that the two ceremonies in India to celebrate their different backgrounds really meant a lot. “It melted my heart, being able to have two big weddings, in India, with our closest family and friends was unbelievably special.”
Nick added that “the emotions were running high during the ceremonies, I think especially during the Western wedding for me. You know you think your whole life about that moment. Honestly, I could not have imagined it would be as perfect as it was. It was highly emotional.”
Priyanka wore a custom-made hand-beaded and embroidered Ralph Lauren gown with a 75-foot long trail during the Christian wedding, while Nick opted for a black suit by the same designer. Inside of the purple lapel of the tuxedo, he added a small piece of lace from the bride’s dress embroidered with the Urdu words “My Jaan” which translates to “My Life”.
Chopra shared that working with the team at Ralph Lauren was very sentimental. “They’re so much a part of our love story for obvious reasons,” she said to People magazine.
“For the Western wedding, we had been talking to a bunch of incredible designers, but ultimately when Ralph Lauren approached us, I learned that Ralph has only designed three wedding dresses in 50 years — one for his daughter, his daughter in law, and his niece,” Chopra explains, adding, “I was blown away.” When Ralph met with Priyanka to hand-deliver the sketch for the dress, she says it was love at first sight. “When we went in for the sketch presentation, they created exactly what I envisioned for myself on my wedding day… and I said, ‘Yes’ to the dress,” she recalls.
The making of the exquisite gown took a total of 1,826 hours to complete, according to the brand. The dress is hand-beaded and hand-embroidered and it features floral and scroll motifs, lace-effect tulle appliqués, scalloped sleeves, and a high-neck collar. Underneath her long-sleeve gown, Chopra wore a strapless column dress made up of 2,380,000 mother of pearl sequins. She finished off her look with long tulle veil that reached 75 feet and custom Jimmy Choo shoes.
The next day they had a Hindu ceremony, where the newlyweds were blessed by their family in a special Indian ritual. Chopra shared: “I love that our wedding was a religious mash-up. We took beautiful traditions that we both grew up with and personalized them in a way that made sense for us. It’s been incredible to find the commonalities between our beliefs and figuring out how to blend them in a respectful and meaningful way.”
This time Priyanka wore a red sari, while Jonas was dressed in a traditional outfit and turban. The bride looked stunning in a Sabyasachi ensemble.
In addition to the two beautiful dresses above, Priyanka also wore not one but three more dresses at the wedding receptions. We simply cannot decide which is more beautiful! She really outdid herself this time!
For the Hindu reception, she looked stunning in a tulle gown which she accessorized with a diamond choker necklace, chooda, drop earrings and a tear-drop mang tikka. She finished off her princess look with a middle-parted bun, nude lips, glowing face, nude-palette make-up, and kohled eyes.
For the Christian reception she wore a spectacular white backless dress with crystal elements on the shoulders:
For the grand reception in New Delhi the Indian beauty was a vision in a champagne Falguni Shane Peacock outfit:
